It’s a sad fact that today identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes around. Hey! Who can blame the criminal element. It’s like robbery without having to use a gun. Also the fact is that while so many people are careful to lock up their homes and businesses, all too often these same people will leave their personal information right out in the open just ripe for the taking. So just how can you protect identity theft from happening in your own home?

Your Personal Information Has a Value On the Black Market

Just because you love your younger relatives doesn't mean that you have to trust them

One area that is discussed far too little is identity theft by friends, room mates and acquaintances. You see, personal information, good personal information has a value today and it can be bought or sold on the black market. This means that if you live in a home that you wouldn’t leave large amount of money or expensive jewelry out in the open in, why in gods name would you leave your personal information out unattended?

Start Tightening Up The Things In Your Home

Keep all your private papers locked up in a personal strong box and never “ever” tell any of your friends or acquaintances personal information like what your mothers maiden name was. Another smart thing to do if you have roommates or shady relatives is to get yourself a post office box and have all your mail delivered there. Then go out and buy yourself a nice paper shredder. Get the type that dices the paper into confetti instead of long stripes of paper.

How To Protect Identity Theft By a Friend Or Loved One

Finally if your a senior citizen then you come from a completely different generation with completely different values then the younger generation of today. Talk to a cop down at your local police station and he or she will tell you that they see it all the time now. Some young man or woman that has taken an older relative to the cleaner by ripping of their identity or life savings. You can still love your younger relatives, just don’t trust them.
